At Jindawayni, we take your privacy seriously. We only collect what we need and we’re careful with it.

A lot of our work involves people choosing to share information with us, whether that’s signing up to an event, taking part in research, or having a yarn about their experiences.

We know that comes with responsibility.

What information we collect

Depending on the work we’re doing, we may collect:

  • Basic contact details (like your name, email address or phone number)

  • Information you choose to share with us through surveys, consultations or yarning sessions

  • Feedback, experiences or views

  • Information related to organisations you represent (if relevant)

We only collect personal information where it is reasonably necessary for our work.

In some cases, this may include sensitive information (for example, where people choose to share cultural or personal experiences as part of engagement or research).

We handle this with care and in line with our obligations. We only collect sensitive information with your consent and where it is reasonably necessary for our work.

How we collect information

We collect information in a few different ways, including:

  • When you register for events or activities

  • When you take part in consultations, surveys or interviews

  • When you contact us directly

  • Through our website or mailing list sign-ups

  • Through third-party platforms we use to deliver our work

Where possible, we collect information directly from you.

How we use your information

We use your information for the reason it was collected:

  • Running events, consultations and projects

  • Contacting you with updates or follow-up information

  • Understand experiences and improve the work we do

  • Sharing outcomes or future opportunities (you can opt out of these communications at any time)

We do not use your information for purposes unrelated to our work.

If you choose not to provide certain information, we may not be able
to involve you in specific activities, events, or projects.

Cultural safety and anonymity

A lot of our work involves people sharing personal or cultural experiences.

We approach this carefully. We don’t attribute stories, comments or experiences to individuals unless you’ve clearly agreed to that.

The findings and insights we provide to clients are de-identified. That means your identity is not shared.

If we ever want to use your story in a way that could identify you,
we will check in with you first.

Where it is lawful and practicable, you may choose to interact with us anonymously or using a pseudonym. If you choose to do so, in some cases, this may limit our ability to engage with you or include your input in our work.

Sharing your information

We do not share your personal information with clients or third parties without your permission.

There are limited exceptions. We may share information where:

  • You have given consent

  • It is required by law

  • There is a serious risk to someone’s safety

We may also disclose information to service providers who support our operations (for example, IT systems or data platforms). These providers handle information on our behalf.

Third-party platforms and services

We use a range of third-party tools and providers to help deliver our work. These may include:

  • Email and communications platforms

  • Survey and data collection tools

  • Social media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn

In some cases, your information may be stored or processed through these systems.

We take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle information appropriately, but they are subject to their own privacy policies.

Overseas disclosure

We primarily operate in Australia. However, some of the third-party providers we use store or process data overseas.

This means your personal information may be disclosed to countries outside Australia, including locations where those service providers operate (such as the United States or other regions).

We take reasonable steps to ensure that any overseas providers handle personal information in a manner consistent with Australian privacy obligations.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold from misuse, loss, unauthorised access or disclosure.

This includes secure systems, limited access, and internal processes to manage information appropriately.

We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, unless we are required by law to keep it longer.
